A Poem For the Birth Day of the Right Honorable the Lady Catherine Tufton. Occasion'd by the sight of some Verses upon that Subject For the preceding Year compos'd by no Eminent Hand.
MS Folger, 242-4.
1713 Misc, 141-5; rpt of 1713: 1903 Reynolds, 79-81; rpt of 1903 Reynolds: 1979 Rogers AF, 69-71.
Rpt of 1713/1903: 1905 Wordsworth (compiled 1819), 16-17, lines 37-62; 1926 Nichol Smith (via 1819 Wordsworth), 39-40, as "The Portrait" (not a portrait, which from Wordsworth's lines it seems, but about a series of verses), lines 37-59.
Catherine Tufton (Serena), was the eldest surviving daughter of Thomas and Catherine Cavendish Tufton (Arminda), Lord and Lady Thanet, born April 24, 1692, this poem is about a young girl who is supposed capable of reading it, so my guess is Catherine is somewhere between 8 to 10, so 1700-02.
